• Alert:

The Idaho State Board of Education met and made the recommendation/decision to continue the “soft closure” order for Idaho school districts through the remainder of this school year.  That means, at this time, the rest of the school year for our students will be completed in the comfort of their home.  This is truly an unprecedented event in our lives but our district will continue to provide as many services as we can that will help our students, and you, our parents and guardians, in order to get through this process.  The Board and administration will be in discussion about the various Spring events that usually bring closure to our school years, such as Graduation.  We will be looking at alternative dates, as well as alternative activities, that will allow us the opportunity to celebrate these wonderful, traditional events.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) and other Health Concerns

Message from the Superintendent

As you know the concern about the Coronavirus(COVID-19) and Influenza are all over the internet and various media sources.  Please keep in mind that this is the typical season when influenza and other respiratory germs are circulating.

The Potlatch School District will continue to monitor the health of our students and staff throughout the school year regarding all illnesses. Should we have a confirmed caseof COVID-19 we will take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our staff and students. As of today, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare report no disease and/or infection with the COVID-19 in the state of Idaho.  Potlatch School District will continue to work with the public health district and continue to provide a safe environment for our students and staff.

Good containment practices are effective regardless of the specific infectious agent.  Proper hand hygiene, cough etiquette and staying home when sick are important ways to control spread of these germs.  Recommendations from Idaho Department of Health and Welfare are:

• Stay home when sick until after at least 24 hours after fever is gone (without use of fever-reducing medications).

• Cover coughs or sneezes with a bent arm or tissue and wash hands afterward.

• Wash hands with soap and water for 20 sec.

• Keep hands away from nose, mouth and eyes when possible.

• Avoid sharing food, drinks or other personal care items.

• Get your influenza vaccine.  It’s not too late.

• Make sure you are up to date on your vaccinations against Pertussis (DTAP).

As a district, we will be providing our classroom teachers and staff with hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and extra boxes of tissues, in order to prevent the spreading of germs as much as possible.

If you have any questions, you may contact us at (208) 875-0327 or contact the North Central District Health Department at (208) 882-7506.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Jeff Cirka, Superintendent
