Tayva McKinney 2022 1A-D1 IHSAA Interscholastic Star
Ashleigh Brown

Please join us in congratulating Potlatch High School Junior, Tayva McKinney on being selected as a 2022 Idaho High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Interscholastic Star for 1A-D1!  Tayva is one of six juniors selected in Idaho. As an Interscholastic Star recipient, Tayva will receive a $1,000 scholarship upon completion of her senior year to any college of her choosing.  Furthermore, Potlatch Jr-Sr High School will receive $500 as the school of a selected Star Award Winner. At a date yet to be determined, Tayva will be presented with a plaque and banner to celebrate this significant achievement!

According to the IHSAA website, "The Interscholastic Star scholarship program is sponsored by the Idaho High School Activities Association and was established in 1992 to recognize and reward outstanding students who participate in high school athletic and non-athletic activities.  Applicants must be Juniors who participate or have participated in at least one IHSAA-sponsored sport and one IHSAA sponsored activity. IHSAA-sponsored activities are: cheerleading, dance, drama, speech, debate, vocal music and instrumental music. These activities must be extracurricular and should be performance-based. Class-only participation will not be considered. Students from 1A and 2A schools may also count FFA and/or student government."

We believe Tayva embodies the characteristics of this prestigious award. Tayva is an honor roll student who has excelled in the classroom while competing in a variety of extracurricular activities, including, but not limited to volleyball, basketball, softball, FFA, BPA, National Honor Society, and the Better Days Club. Tayva is the Junior Class President and served as the team captain for the varsity basketball team. Furthermore, Tayva is very active within her community. Tayva aided the community of Potlatch, as well as the surrounding communities, by volunteering at our local "National Night Out" (an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie). In addition, she helps sterilize and wash emergency vehicles for our local fire department and ambulance, assists with the local food truck to help provide food to those in need, and assists with a fundraising dinner to benefit the Princeton Community Center.

We are honored to have Tayva represent Potlatch Jr-Sr High School in this capacity. Congratulations, Tavya!
