I am excited to share a few of the learning opportunities our students have had.
On Sept 24, Evelyn Thompson took a group of students to University of Idaho’s Women in Engineering Day. Students learned more about what engineers do and how to take the skills they already have and turn them into a future career! Students toured U of I Engineering labs and facilities, and participated in hands-on STEM design and build activities. Thanks to Mrs. Thompson for arranging this great learning experience.
Aaron Hodges, with the Idaho Trucking Association, brought a “semi simulator” to Potlatch Jr/Sr High School on Oct 5. Students age 15 or older signed up for a time to experience driving a logging truck. Mr. Hodges set up the simulator course so students would experience entering and driving on a freeway. He included hazardous conditions such as experiencing a flat tire and driving through rain, snow, and thick fog. More than 70 of our students had the opportunity to participate in this learning experience - thanks to Linda McCarver for setting this up!
Our CTE Agriculture and FFA students have been busy. The State FFA officers met with 7th graders in Ms. Hille’s Intro to Ag class to share how agriculture education is found in every part of life--from sports we play to the food we eat! On Oct 1, FFA members participated in the CALS livestock judging and farm tours where they had the opportunity to judge different classes of sheep, hogs, steers, and heifers. Mrs. Hille’s Floriculture students have been learning about floral arranging and practiced their skills for arrangements they shared with the Jr/Sr high school staff. They will show off their skills in arrangements they sold for a fundraiser - look for the “fall” or “spooky” arrangements purchased by community members.
Are you a Potlatch Alumn? We want to reconnect with alumni both near and far and share stories of where graduates are now. All alumni stories matter and can serve as inspiration for our students. Please take a moment to fill out our short form here: bit.ly/PSD285Alumni
We are still in need of Bus Drivers (route drivers, trip drivers, and substitute drivers) and substitutes - as well as maintenance help. If you, or someone you know, is interested in joining our team, please have them stop by the District Office.
Due to weather, we have made some slight changes to tonight's candlelight vigil. We will still hold the vigil to honor the memory of University of Idaho students Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Madison Mogen. We invite you to join us in the Multi-Purpose Room at the Jr-Sr High School at 5pm for the vigil. However, if you are worried about poor road conditions, we encourage you not to travel and to stay safe by participating from home.
Due to hazardous road conditions, there is no school today, November 30. Please be safe.
