2020-2021 Changes for Sixth Grade Students

time for something new

Parents/Guardians of future sixth grade students,

During the 2020/2021 School year, as your child advances to sixth grade, we are excited to share that things are going to look a bit differently than they have in the past. Next year, we are finally able to offer a more traditional middle school approach, where students will rotate between the different teachers for various instructional subjects. This has been in the works to for several years, as to ease the “cold” transition into our Jr. High environment that a majority of our students seem to struggle with at the end of their elementary experience. This format also allows for deeper differentiation for the individual student, in turn better serving your child’s academic needs.

Mr. Seth Christianson will teach all Sixth Graders English/Language Arts and Social Studies while Mr. Landon Gossack will teach all Sixth Graders Math and Science. As with the traditional middle school format, each student will still have a homeroom teacher that they will start their day with and receive large group instruction or home room instruction in the other academic areas. As we make this move, the optional parent input forms will still be taken into consideration for class splits for home room placement.

As a team, we feel like this is great opportunity in preparation for transitioning our kids to the Jr./Sr. High School, as well as the opportunity to better serve the individual needs of your child. These are the areas we anticipate positive growth in

  • Students will have the opportunity to ease into the rigors of Jr High.
  • They will learn how to better keep themselves and their work organized, in a more closely controlled environment with Jr High in mind.
  •  They will learn to better operate within different classroom settings, different teachers’ expectations, and different management and teaching styles.
  •  They will transition into our Jr High atmosphere with more confidence and the ability to adapt successfully.

If you have any questions or inquiries, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,

John Haire, Elementary Principal
